KiD CuDi x MGMT x Ratatat – Pursuit Of Happiness (Alternate Version)
I LOVE the original version (See the original version again after the jump) but this video is amazing. Seriously one of the better videos i’ve ever seen as far as its connection to the song. the entire video you feel disoriented. you feel, not just as a viewer but a participant, like you’re messed up (on drugs, emotionally, w/e). really beautifully done.

Peace, and the constant pursuit of HAPPINESS and much LOVE.

just saw this at martian-blog. it is incredible.
it’s ironic, creative, original, current, old, fun, nerdy, cool, structured, hard, simple, complex.
i love it.

plus, we share our second name.
peace, and roy love.

lupe fiasco…solar midnite
new lupe!!
Lupe Fiasco – Solar Midnite|iTunes
Solar Midnite is my first commercial release that I actually produced as well as wrote. The New Moon team asked me if I could do a song specifically for the film. They invited me to an early screening of the unfinished film from which I pulled different elements that I thought would translate into a great song. I pulled in vocalist and bassist Graham Burris and acclaimed musician Matt Nelson to help fill it out my vision musically and “joila” Solar Midnite was born. The song basically deals with the chaotic love story that takes place between the characters. It’s more on the rock side of my musical catalog and comes straight from my die hard fanhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Anthony Keidis, one of my FAVORITE RAPPERS.
it’s from the New Moon soundtrack.
pretty dope. it sounds to me like his two projects (Lupe Fiasco and Japanese Cartoon) coming together into one. featuring the side of him that loves electric distorted guitar, heavy, distorted vocals, rock drums with rapping and catchy choruses. it’ll be interesting to see how this is received by the general population who loves lupe for his previous releases; superstar, daydream, and shining down. no word on whether or not this will be on Lasers or not. it’s a far stray from the first single Shining Down though.
peace, and solar love.
michael jackson…this is it title track
check the first single to michael jackson’s This Is It film and soundtrack.
Peace, and love (is it).
lupe…laser time
here’s a sweet series of recent blogs from codename #WEARELASERS…
apparently shining down was just the first leak but not the first single. perhaps army girl? (see below)
the following video:
…Lupe perform at an underpromoted fraternity Step competition Sprite was sponsoring on campus.
Here’s a video I took on my iPhone of Lupe performing his new joint “Fire”; he gives a minute-long intro explaining the track and what it has to do with MTV’s recently released 2009 Hottest MCs List. I believe this is the first time he’s performed the track.
Also, he performed a new track, “Army Girl”, off of his upcoming album Lasers. -WeDoItRight
He talks about how (as previously posted) he’s ok with the list being “right now”…but he’s gonna have to be “two straight solid years” where he’s “like 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 on that mothafucker.” he says he’s just going to put in the work.
i respect a hard worker more that about anything else…so…let’s go!
Peace, and laser love.
raphael saadiq…let’s take a walk [vid]
yesterday, i posted the Raphael Saadiq Tiny Desk session from NPR…here’s a nice follow up with him music video for “Let’s Take A Walk”
Vodpod videos no longer available.
I love not only the b&w, but the filter they have going throughout to give it a look like it’s from a 60s performance. i’ll say this too about him, not everybody just looks good in a suit. most people can’t just wear a suit and look comfortable. alot of it is about how you wear it, not just what you wear. this dude looks good in a suit. i digs it!
peace, and let’s take a walk love.
roots…how i got over vid
Just thought I’d share this cause of how much i like it (and i support their music)…
Vodpod videos no longer available.
It’s the Roots’ first single called How I Got Over.
I feel like the images present a message like, whatever their struggle is, all these people relate in that they struggle “in these streets.” They all have to find ways to get over, to stay strong.
Simple, but the song is too. It’s raw, mature, gives the audience the message. I think it’s really shot well too.
Peace, and get over love.
wsquared…flashing lights remix

Lupe the Fiasco…challenge the label
via: LupEND Blog
Update: Interesting, Lupe talks about his record company holding him back during a concert and not even 10 hours after a video of that popped up on YouTube (the one I posted above), they (WMG) removed it.
You can’t tell me that this is because of copyright reasons because all of the other live clips are still online, they just don’t want people to know what Lupe said. I wrote it all down though, so check it below!
Album Nr. 3, LASERS – Love Always Shines Every-time Remember 2 Smile.
I picked Lasers because Lasers are life, Lasers shine, Lasers are the future, Lasers are progression, Lasers are revolutionary, Lasers are NOT Losers!
Lasers are different, Lasers are weird, Lasers are eclectic, but Lasers are NOT Losers! We’re winners that’s what we are, we’re winners! All the freaks, all the ones that don’t know what they are, all the indecisive ones, We’re Not Losers, We Are Lasers!
This next record (Shining Down) is the first record off the new album and it’s a testament, it’s a testament to what you can do when people are holding you back.
My record company did not push this record at all but yet in it’s first week we sold like 30.000 copies…don’t be scared to put records like this on the radio, this is what we need! It’s not what they want, it’s what they need!
They need to know that it’s people on top that recognize what they do, that feel what they do, that are where they’re from, who don’t really care about money and none like that, who don’t care about fame, who don’t care about being on the internet in front of some stupid-ass camera talking about what they wore this morning and what they had for breakfast yesterday. Fuck all that!
We Are Lasers and we shine goddammit, we shine and we gonna shine either with your support or without your support, we gonna shine muthafuckas and we gonna shine down on you!
More footage from the concert can be found HERE
Interesting…he’s speaking of Atlantic Records as his label not pushing the “Shining Down” record.
Good music will shine through whether or not the labels push it…he may not be getting the milllions Jay-Z is pumping into his shit, or that Interscope will put into Soulja Boy. But understand, WE the people have and are gaining control of the music. The people will hear what they want to hear.
That is why we are seeing the tabels turn, and fully independent labels and artists coming up and being equally successful. Trust in us.
Peace, and independence love.
KiD CuDi…Man On The Moon album art & scene list

Supposed to be set up and feel like a movie. Hopefully no skits.
I think it’s a fail to put “Make Her Say” and “Day N Night” (the single version) on the album. He should revamp “Day N Night” and maybe put a new verse on, but “Make Her Say” should NOT be on there. We’ve already paid for the single, seen the video, it’s a nice little buzz internet song. For the most part, the album is going straight into iTunes anyways, so why would we want to pay for the song again? I’d much rather pay for a comparable song (or another one that is BETTER). I hope he reads this and makes an executive decision (ha!).
Still pumped for this none the less…but i’m givin him my thoughts when i meet the dude.
Peace, and man in the moon love.
Shining Down…lyrics & breakdown
Here’s a dope breakdown of Lupe Fiasco’s newest single Shining Down. It includes the lyrics and a breakdown of the verses / meaning. If you haven’t heard it, here it is on youtubes (but please iTunes it and download that shit)…
[Hook:]
Look up in the sky.
Now look up in the sky.
Look up in the sky
You thought I was down.
You thought I was gone.
Thought I wasn’t around.
You thought I left you alone.
But look up in the sky.
Just look up in the sky.
See that I’m everywhere
Everywhere
Shining down on you.[Verse #1:]
Well, well
Is that our little author?
Coming back; Humming his hymns, a little altered
Your attention, put back on the flow like the department of water
Taking off with the dough, like Little Walter
Chess? Yes. Baby, I’m Jerry Lawler
Rebel with a cause; outlaw with the lawyer
Judge, jury, like a loo;
Rap name Lupe, but my daddy named me Warrior
This is his memorialThe 1st verse finds Fiasco touching on his return because if you think about it, he has been on hiatus for a longer time period in comparison to the time between his 1st two albums. He’s back to put his twist back on hip hop and speak what needs to be spoken (“Coming back, humming his hymns, a little altered”, dope church references). He’s back to put our attention back on his flow like the water department’s attention is on the flow of water. He references Little Walter, a blues singer who used to be with Chess Records, but left (“taking off with the dough”) when it was discovered that Lou & Phil Chess, the owners of Chess Records, were allegedly stealing funds from their recording artists. It appears Lupe feels that Atlantic is doing the same (another Jay-Z attribute: subliminals). It would also seem that Lupe is staking his own claim as the king of this rap game (Jerry Lawler was a wrestler, quite frequently known as “The King”, which also ties into the “chess” line). The Jerry Lawler reference also ties into the next few lines as throughout his career, he was seen as a heel or bad guy (“rebel with a cause”) and he was known for going to court for his various divorces (“outlaw with the lawyer”). His rap name is “Lupe”, but his father named him “Wasulu”, which means “warrior”.
[Verse #2:]
[Auto-Tuned] No, I ain’t that nigga trying to get a liquor line
When I be scripting lines, want this petition signed
It says I’m sick of dying, sick of this prison time
I really love my people, I’m sick of pimping mine [Auto-Tuned]
Now if we autotune that shit
We can hear the songs from that opera groomed fat bitch
Telling us not to pursue it, just to shoo (shoe) it like a blacksmith
We’re trapped, and moving round in circles like it’s chapstick
And that’s the same encircled way of thinking that we chat with
We’ll wrap this, around your, head like the bandanas Fabolous
Used to wrap his hats with
Rather be in F.E.D.S. instead of National Geographics
Well, I’m not having itThe first couple of lines are merged with auto-tune, which is Lupe’s way of saying that if important lines are immersed in auto-tune, the true message will never be discovered and it will be the end (the fat lady singing (“the opera-groomed fat bitch”)) of hip hop. His return is spawned by his desire to contribute to hip hop and wrap his message around minds (“like the bandanas Fabolous used to wrap his hats with”) unlike the music that has been around in his absence. It is his plan to rebel against these popular trends in rap music as he feels people would rather read FEDS magazine, a magazine that glorifies rappers and gives breakdowns on gangs & inner-city violence, instead of educational material like National Geographic.
[Verse #3:]
So, I say hello and this is for the third time
To everybody out there who ain’t never heard mine
And if you have, then you know you ain’t never heard lying
Lu don’t move no cowards, you only heard lines
Not a facade cherisher, I’d rather have the scars
I don’t idolize America, I’m dancing with the stars
Uh huh. All of them? Yea, they are, too.
You look up and you see us shining down on you.In the final verse, he reintroduces himself for the third time (3rd LP, 3rd verse of this record), speaking to new fans and those who have been with him since the start. He is not one to tell lies nor put them in his records. The next line can be interpreted in a variety of ways (with a subtle Cowardly Lion (Wizard of Oz) reference thrown in):
“Lu don’t move (moo), no cowards (cow-words/cow-herds), you’ve only heard (heard) lines (lions)”
The lion/lying theme throughout the song is also a subtle dedication to Lupe’s father, Gregory Hamza Jaco (“Hamza” means lion in Arabic and the last thing Lupe’s father told him was “not to lie, tell Wasulu to tell the truth”. He doesn’t hide nor accept facades as he’d rather have “the scars” (which also a play on the word “disguise”) and finally, he completes the verse (and song) with two references to two world famous talent competition (American Idol & Dancing With The Stars).
~ Signed, The Greatest Rapper Alive (Lupe Fiasco’s L.a.s.e.r.s., in stores this December)
Peace, and shining down on love.
